An Interview with Cary Mizobe
How would you describe your character in Bamboo Shark?
In some scenes he is “green” conscious. I’m thinking, “Has my character got a screw loose or what?”. I mean, the guy’s looking for his 10 million… but, wants to save the environment for a more green car. So his character comes off as mean evil scary guy but his other side… well, he's kind of wacko.
Are you anything like your character?
I'm just a wacko! Turned 55 years old and I refuse to act my age. My philosophy is if you start acting your age, that's when you'll get old. My Grandfather never acted his age and lived 3 months before his 100th birthday. The day I have to stop being a crazy goof ball will be a sad one.
What would you say to Dennis Ward if he was here right now?
When are you gonna finish this frigin' picture, man?! The people are out there. They wanna see it. They think it's a fantastic premise for a movie. They wanna see all of these celebrity impersonators. I mean, you see movies with 1, 2, or 3 celebrity impersonators… but 50!?!?! How crazy is that?! Just that little teaser alone will grab people to see the movie.
What was one of your favorite characters that you performed out of all of your projects?
Foo kim- in Bamboo Shark... I really had fun with him. I kind of wish the part was a little bit bigger so I could be seen throughout the movie. Other roles were more on the serious side. The typical Asian dude. But… I had some leeway with Foo Kim.
We've read somewhere that you do voiceovers. Is this true? How do you like that end of business?
I'd like to do more. It's really hard to break in… especially out in LA. There's an inner circle of people that do voiceovers. I just don't know how to break into the business.
What was your favorite meal on set?
Pizza.
Who else have you worked with in the business?
I've had fun working in the business. You meet cool people. I've met Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Tom Cruise, Brittney Murphy (... and I taught her martial arts!), Jay Leno, and so many more! It's been really great.
